That is partly wrong.
America was founded by protestants. The Catholics tried to get their people in place, but in america’s founding, most people were leery of them considering most still knew of things like the gunpowder plot. So protestants had a firm hold on this country. You can look at the way the constitution is written and can tell it comes from protestant ideaology.
But the catholics have been trying their best to take over and pretty much have.
