I agree with you that advertised jobs mean nothing. I interviewed for a position in february and they told me in March the position was on hold. I checked lastg week and the position is still being advertised even thought it is on hold. I have come across this several times as have other people I have spoken to. There are also companies that advertise positions only because company policy says they need to evne if they have identified an internal candidate.

The gold price is high, but only about half the price that it ws in the early 1980′s. Gold was about $850 back then which would be over $2200 in today’s dollars. The problem is that the collapse is not being allowed to happen. It is being forced off day by day, but it is inevitable. It is fiscally bad right now, and on paper, we have not even approached how bad as it was in the first half of the 1980′s. But it is all a sham, the crash is likely to be hundreds of times worse than ever before

While working for the Census I found a lot of vacant houses with no For Sale or For rent signs. Yet someone is still cutting the grass. It seems that the banks are not wanting to dump all of them on the market. No doubt the gov’t and/or the Federal Reserve is in on this. It would also drive down property taxes.
